Κέρδισε το τίτλο της “Πράσινης Πόλης” ο Δήμος Λάρνακας

Ο Δήμος Λάρνακας για ακόμα μία χρονιά ξεχώρισε ως πρότυπο περιβαλλοντικής ευαισθητοποίησης, αποσπώντας τον τίτλο της “Πράσινης Πόλης” στα Παγκύπρια Βραβεία “Πράσινες Πόλεις & Πράσινες Κοινότητες της Κύπρου 2024”.

Η τιμητική αυτή διάκριση απονεμήθηκε για δύο σημαντικά έργα:

• «Δημιουργία Πάρκου καλλιτεχνών ΜΕΣΟΓΕΙΟΣ στην παραλιακή Τ/κ συνοικία Σκάλα στη Λάρνακα», στην κατηγορία  «Πολιτισμός και Περιβάλλον» για τη χρονιά 2024
• «Δημιουργία των πιο πράσινων παραλιών στην Κύπρο (Βορόκληνης)», στην κατηγορία «Πράσινες Περιοχές – Αστική Βιοποικιλότητα» για τη χρονιά 2024.

Σημαντική είναι η συμβολή της Εταιρείας Τουριστικής Ανάπτυξης και Προβολής Λάρνακας  (ΕΤΑΠ) και του Δημοτικού Διαμερίσματος Βορόκληνης, οι οποίοι, με τη στήριξη του Υφυπουργείου Τουρισμού, επενδύουν τα τελευταία χρόνια στην ενίσχυση του πρασίνου στο παραλιακό μέτωπο της περιοχής, με στόχο τη βελτίωση της εικόνας και της ταυτότητάς του.

Με τη βράβευση αυτή, ο Δήμος εντάσσεται πλέον στο Δίκτυο Πράσινων Πόλεων και Κοινοτήτων της Κύπρου, που δημιούργησε το ΚΥΚΠΕΕ.

Η τελετή απονομής της Πράσινης Σημαίας πραγματοποιήθηκε τη Δευτέρα 30 Ιουνίου 2025, στο Προεδρικό Μέγαρο. Τα βραβεία παρέλαβαν ο Δήμαρχος Λάρνακας κ. Ανδρέας Βύρας και ο Αντιδήμαρχος του Δ.Δ. Βορόκληνης κ. Νεόφυτος Φακοντής, ενώ παρόντες ήταν και ο πρόεδρος της Επιτροπής Περιβάλλοντος και Ανάπτυξης Πρασίνου κ. Άλκης Αναστασιάδης και ο Υπεύθυνος Πρασίνου κ. Ηλίας Ηλία.

The Municipality of Larnaca has once again stood out as a model of environmental awareness, earning the title of “Green City” at the Cyprus-wide “Green Cities & Green Communities of Cyprus 2024” Awards.

This honorary distinction was awarded for two significant projects:

• “Creation of the MESOGEIOS Artists’ Park in the coastal Turkish Cypriot Skala neighborhood of Larnaca”, in the category “Culture and Environment” for the year 2024.
• “Creation of the greenest beaches in Cyprus (Voroklini)”, in the category “Green Areas – Urban Biodiversity” for the year 2024.

Significant contributions were made by the Larnaca Tourism Development and Promotion Company (ETAP) and the Voroklini Municipal District, who, with the support of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, have in recent years invested in enhancing the greenery along the area’s coastline, aiming to improve its image and identity.

With this award, the Municipality is now part of the Network of Green Cities and Communities of Cyprus, established by the Cyprus Centre for Environmental Research and Education (CY.C.E.R.E.).

The Green Flag award ceremony took place on Monday, June 30, 2025, at the Presidential Palace. The awards were received by the Mayor of Larnaca Mr. Andreas Vyras and the Deputy Mayor of the Voroklini District Mr. Neofytos Fakontis, in the presence of the Chairman of the Environment and Green Development Committee Mr. Alkis Anastasiadis and Green Spaces Officer Mr. Ilias Ilias.
